CAOS: High Performance, Effecient, Community Linux
An innovative design focusing on efficiency and performance, Caos Linux starts with a lean core that unfolds into a powerful operating system, robust and streamlined enough to handle any serious server application. Our industry experienced developers were inspired by the need to create an operating system combining efficiency with serious power that maintained the constant ability to recreate itself. This focus on high performance and scalability in our build model translates all the way down to our system management and user interface, making Caos Linux not only the distribution of choice for clusters, servers, and appliances, but also a solid choice for graphical desktop workstations and the latest laptops. It is as a server solution that Caos Linux shines brightest however, as that is the arena it was designed to compete in. Caos Linux is based on the best aspects of GNU/Linux, designed to run out of the box on all x86_64 and i386 based hardware.

Caos Linux NSA-1.0.8 release is now available!
The Caos team of developers and contributors from Infiscale are proud to announce the public release of Caos Linux NSA-1.0.8, an updated release to the NSA-1.0 tree. Caos Linux is a community-managed and openly-maintained distribution of Linux focusing on areas where Linux naturally leads and excels: high performance computation (HPC), servers (especially LAMP and general Web), and custom appliances (such as file servers and firewalls).

The NSA-1.0 release identifies the stabilization and validation of the core operating system, fully tested on some of the world's fastest public and private systems and architectures. And now with NSA 1.0.8 you get bleeding-edge security updates, the new 2.6.28 kernel, updated packages such as OFED 1.4 and gcc-4.3.3, a streamlined Sidekick system configuration toolkit (making the installation of Caos Linux and Perceus even faster and easier), the latest Perceus 1.5 cluster management software, and Abstractual, Infiscale's cloud virtualization solution. All of these updates are already integrated in the NSA-1.0.8 ISO release of Caos Linux, available now on our download mirrors.

Caos NSA and Perceus article in Linux Magazine!
Jeffrey B. Layton has written an article in Linux Magazine this month detailing how simple installing a cluster can be, entitled Caos NSA and Perceus: All-in-one Cluster Software Stack. How quickly can you have a fully operational cluster running with Caos NSA and Perceus? Check out the article to find out!

Quoting the article, "Sometimes it's a struggle to configure a cluster software stack. Usually the stack is split into a distribution (OS) and the cluster management tool. While there are some advantages to this separation, sometimes people want to have a cluster software stack that is all-in-one. There are several packages that satisfy this definition such as ROCKS and Clustermatic, but there is one that is arguably the best combination - Caos NSA and Perceus."

We agree. Caos NSA 1 with Perceus 1.5, Abstractual cloud virtualization, and all the support software you need integrated by default is an all-in-one clustering solution that you really need to see for yourself!

Linux Operating System Caos 2 Comes to End of Lifecycle.
Caos Linux is announcing the operating system Caos 2 has come to the end of it's lifecycle. No further development will be made with Caos 2, and download links to it from the mirrors will no longer be available. The project has been idle for some time now, and all development resources are now directed towards the current Caos Linux project, Caos-NSA.

Caos-NSA is not an update or upgrade to Caos 2, they are distinctly separate operating systems. Caos 2 was a more generalized Linux server/workstation, while Caos-NSA is a streamlined Linux OS for HPC Nodes, Servers, and Appliances. It is not possible to upgrade to Caos-NSA from Caos 2; a new installation must be made, so users just switching over can expect to find some missing packages in the new OS. Rest assured that the changes made in Caos-NSA are of substantial importance, and you will like the results!
